Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a ten-digit alphanumeric number, issued in the form of a laminated card, by the Income Tax Department. All existing assesses or taxpayers or persons who are required to furnish a return of income, even on behalf of others, must obtain PAN. It is mandatory to quote PAN on return of income, all correspondence with any income tax authority.
The Documents and information needs to be submitted along with application for PAN card are :

Here are the steps to apply PAN online :
1. Fill the PAN card application Form 49A available on the NSDL Website https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/endUserRegisterContact.html 2. Fill all the details in the form such as Application Type, Category, Name, Date of Birth, Mobile Number and E-mail ID.
3. The final step will come payment mode. Payment can be made online through credit/debit cards, demand draft or net-banking. Once your payment has been transferred successfully, acknowledgement will be displayed. Save this acknowledgement number.
